Building your career is a game of steps

Or building anything new for that matter.

Business.

A venture.

Anything.

It is all a game of steps.

Steps forward, steps back, and steps to the sides.

For example, when I write and publish something here on Medium, my next step is to share some of my writings on LinkedIn which are apt for my followers on LinkedIn.

But then OCD kicks in. Prompting me to keep checking for any reactions and updates. A thousand times a day. And for the most part, useless behaviour.

The remedial step here is to take one step back. Imagine that I did not post anything on LinkedIn and to continue with my Medium writings instead.

Another scenario that takes place sometimes as a writer, especially if you don’t have an established presence, is to quit sharing altogether as a result of disappointment or the lack of reaction or appreciation to your shared writing.

It seems to me that the dealing required here is ‘not’ to stop sharing but to share your writings judiciously, learn from your sharing, and improvise.

If you believe in the subject matter of your writing and it does relate to your audience, if there is no immediate reaction to it, you can simply take one step back. Assume that you did not share it with them and continue with your writings.

As a writer, you cannot stop your writing. You need to keep writing on your subject matter. You must continue your basic job. Period.
